The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a further development of the already established 1000H, but with a stress on increasing the battery life. As we all know, battery life has been a week point eversince  portable devices appeared on the scene. It’s becoming more apparent when it comes to notebooks, or in this case, netbooks. Asus targeted at this and came out with the Eee PC 1000HE.

What’s so interesting about the 1000HE? In case you are not familiar with the eee pc 1000 series, it has a nice 10 inch LED backlit display, 160GB of storage space and comfortable isolated keys keyboard.  And what makes it different?!? Travelers – note this – the eee pc 1000HE has a battery capacity of 8700 mAH! To put that into perspective, a conventional mobile phone battery has about 1200mAH. Go figure.

Asus didn’t over do the design on the 1000HE. The keyboard was really nice to type on and following the traits of the newer Eee PCs, the 1000HE has a large enough multi touch trackpad with support of up to three fingers.

The 1000HE has an Intel Atom N270 processor clocked at 1.60GHz. 1GB of memory and is preinstalled with Windows XP Home. We couldn’t get the PCMark05 scores despite countless runs but the CPU, Memory and HDD scores were of netbook range.

Despite the run of the mill benchmark scores, the battery life of this thing is magnificent! We tested the 1000HE’s battery life by turning up the brightness of the screen and volume to the max with WiFi and Bluetooth on, we got slightly more than 8 hours. Now that’s what we call a proper battery!

The heavy battery also took a toll on the 1000HE’s weight. At 1.45kg, it’s not exactly one of the lightest netbooks around and we’ve reviewed some proper notebooks that weigh in at about the same weight. However, to Asus defence, 1.45kg is still a bearable weight for a portable computer.

The hardware specifications of the Asus Eee PC 1000HE can be found on every other netbooks but we can bet that the battery life is second to none. We love the keyboard as well as the multi touch trackpad to bits. The 1.45kg weight might put some netbook hunters of though.

Pros:
Cons:

Excellent battery life,
Nice keyboard and multi touch trackpad as most eee PCs out there

A little heavier with almost 1.5 kg of weight
